But to anyone who has ever handled these phones, particularly the mortgage phones, then you will agree with me that resetting security locks on these phones is quite a thorn in the flesh. The security patches on these phone’s software is one of its kind. Therefore resetting these phones is quite a task. But today in this article, we are going to learn how we can fix this. Now, with smartphones, you can simply do a hard reset and wipe your phone’s user data including the security locks through recovery mode. But with Tecno Pop 5 Pro (BD4j) Smartphone, it becomes a challenge. When you boot to recovery and try to factory reset, the phone will reboot and will not do a factory reset. This is due to the latest security patch by service providers to protect these devices. Therefore, this article is strictly about resetting your phone in case you forgot the security code or password. You should not use the information in this article for illegal purposes.
Tecno Pop 5 Pro (BD4j) Factory Reset Without Using Unlocktool or CM2.
If you have been a person that trusts Unlocktool, then I am sorry to say that this phone might disappoint your particularly if it is a mortgage phone. Because of the security patch update, when you connect this phone to the computer in BROM mode, you will see that it sticks to “Jumping to BROM” and doesn’t complete the action of wiping the user data. Sometimes you can try using the test points. Personally, even with test points I still got the same error of “Jumping to Brom”. I don’t know if you have the CM2 Dongle. But most people don’t have that I inclusive. Therefore Let us look at how to reset password on Tecno Pop 5 Pro without using Unlocktool or CM2 since Unlocktool cannot help us and on the other hand we don’t have CM2.
Alternative Method on How To Reset Tecno Pop 5 Pro without using Unlocktool or CM2
Now, remember Unlocktool has proved to be unhelpful and we don’t have the cm2 dongle or any other flashing software. That said than done, let us look at some of the requirements we are going to have in order to reset password on Tecno Pop 5 Pro without using Unlocktool or CM2.
Requirements
- Computer.
- Mediatek Universal Tool
- USB Drivers Pre installed.
- Some mobile phone hardware skills for test points
- A pair of tweezers.
- USB Data Cable
Steps On Tecno (BD4j) Factory Reset without using Unlocktool or CM2
Step 1
The first thing you will need to have is the tool that you are going to use in order to reset password on your Tecno pop 5 pro Smartphone. In this case, since we don’t have CM2 and Unlocktool cannot work with this phone, we are going to use the Mediatek Universal Tool. This tool is quite a super tool to me. Download the MTK Universal tool download MTK Universal tool here from this link. Extract the zip file and save the files to a folder you can easily locate.
Step2
Now, run the Mediatek Universal Tools application as administrator. This tool works on both windows 64bits and 32bits respectively. For more information on how to use this tool, read my article on the Mediatek Universal tool Download and How to use it. Otherwise, launch the tool and be patient as it opens. If it doesn’t, turn off your antivirus, extract the zip file again, and launch the MTK Universal tool. It should open as shown below.
Step3
Now, with your MTK Universal tool launched, you will see a list of features and actions you can perform under the main tab. On the list, click on the ‘FORMAT DATA/FACTORY RESET” option. This option will wipe your phone’s user data. After that, click on the ‘START’ button.

Step 4
Now, until this point, you are on the right track to remove the security lock on Tecno Pop 5 Pro. Now it is time to connect your phone to the PC. To do so, power off your Tecno Pop 5 Pro. Open the back cover; remove the metal casing on the motherboard. Using your pair of tweezers, connect these test points.
Connect your phone to the computer via the USB Data cable. As soon as you hear the connection sound, release your tweezers from the test points.. Mediatek Universal tool will detect your phone, bypass Auth security and format your Tecno Pop 5 Pro Smartphone.
As soon as the progress is completed, disconnect your phone from the PC. Hold both the volume up, volume down, and the power key to boot up your phone. It may take a few minutes to complete the boot-up since it has been wiped. Wait until it is done. Complete the start-up settings and you will be able to use your phone once again without the password.
Conclusion
Kindly note that even with Test points, Unlocktool will still hang on “Jumping to brom.” This method is kind of tedious but it will certainly work. Remember on phones that are not mortgage phones, no need to go all through this. You can just do a hard reset. Lastly, remember that while removing the metal casing on the motherboard to get to the test points, be very careful not to remove very tiny components along the metal casing edge. When you temper with those components, your phone will get into hardware problems that you may not be able to solve. Be warned.
