How To Change IMEI Number On Android Smartphones Without a Computer

IMEI is an initial that stands for International Mobile Equipment Identification. IMEI number is also most commonly known as serial number. IMEI number therefore, is a unique serial number that identifies your mobile equipment in a mobile phones registry all over the world. This number is unique to every single phone. If you want to see your IMEI number, dial *#06# on your phone. You can write it down it can be really useful in the event you lose your phone. You can give it to the police who can track your phone for you using the same.

Now, having understood what IMEI number means and what it stands for, let us look at how to change IMEI number for android smartphones. I know you might be wondering why one might need to change his IMEI number. Yes. There are circumstances that might prompt someone to change his IMEI number. For instance, sometimes after flashing a new ROM, you might find that you might experience a network problem because of missing IMEI number on your phone.

Methods On How To Change IMEI Number On Android Smartphones Without A Computer

There are several methods through which you can change IMEI number on your phone. Let us look at each one of them.

  • How to change IMEI number using MTK Engineering App

This method will require you to have the app. You can download MTK Engineering Mode Apk. You can download this app from the Android play store or you can search for it online and download it to your phone. Install it and open the app.

Now, click on MTK Settings. On the next screen, swipe left to Connectivity. Now, click on CDS Information, then Radio Information. After opening the radio information screen, select the between Phone 1 and phone 2. This means that you will chose between the SIM cards you want to change your IMEI. That is, if you are using twin SIM cards. If you are using just one SIM card, just select Phone 1. Now, after selecting the between Phone 1 or 2, you will see your phone’s information displayed. You will also see your current IMEI number. You may need to write it down somewhere or take a screenshot in case you need it again. Now, you will see at the top, AT+. Place your cursor between “T” and ”+” and click space bar on your keyboard and then the delete key/backspace.

Now, you will notice that there are some information that comes up. You will see: AT+EGMR=1,7””, AT+EGMR=1,10””, AT+EGMR=1,11””, AT+EGMR=1,2”” and others. But we are only interested in the first two. The first one is for Phone 1 while the second is for phone 2. So, depending on the SIM card to which you want to change your IMEI number, chose either the first or the second. Now, place your cursor between fist and the last speech marks (“ ”) and then put a space between them. Then, copy and paste your new IMEI number between the space marks.

If you didn’t copy your new IMEI, just manually key it in, and then click on SEND AT COMMAND. Reboot your phone and then check your new IMEI by dialing *#06#. If you get the error: This Command is not allowed in User Built, try again. If you still get the same error, try the second method.

  • How to Change IMEI number using Xposed IMEI changer app

You can also change your phone’s IMEI number using Xposed IMEI Changer apk. Remember this method will require you to meet the following conditions:

  1. You must have your smartphone rooted. For more information about rooting, Read: What It means to have a rooted smartphone
  2. You must have an internet connection.
  3. You Must have downloaded Xposed IMEI Changer APK
  4. You Must install Android Xposed Installer app. These two apps works hand in hand.

Having met the above requirements, Install both apps and launch Android Xposed Installer app. Open the app and click on Modules.

Now on the modules screen, you will see a list of available modules. But we don’t need those other modules to change IMEI number. So, don’t bother with that. Above, where there is Download and a drop down menu, click on that to show more other options.

Now, click on Modules. This will take you to the screen where you will find now the app you installed that is, Xposed IMEI Changer pro. Click on it and you will now open the Xposed IMEI Changer pro app from the modules.

Now from the Xposed IMEI Changer Pro App, You will see your current IMEI number and a default one where you can now input your new IMEI number. After that, click on APPLY in Red button. Then reboot your phone now. Check your new IMEI number by dialing *#06#.

Conclusion

Note that, it is not guaranteed that the above methods will solve your problem. Due to various reasons and difference in phone models, there are chances that one between the two methods will not work or both will not work. Depending on the version of Android you are using, some of the above mentioned apps might not install or if they install, they might not work due to non root abilities. Finally, always write down both your new and current IMEI numbers. This will help you recover the previous IMEI number if the new one doesn’t work better.
