How to Transfer Contacts & SMS from iPhone to Galaxy S8

Samsung Galaxy S8 is one of the most notable flashship Android phones being launched recently. A lot of folks who use iPhone are now switching to Galaxy S8 because of its excellent hardware specs and design. However, there would be some problem when getting to a whole new device. And one major problem is how to transfer data from the old device to the new one. It would take hours to complete the task if you did it manually.

In this tutorial, we will show you a couple of easy ways to transfer contacts from iPhone to Galaxy S8. Please read the article in below and choose a method that works best for you.

Method 1: How to Transfer Contacts with Google Account

On Android, using a Google account is the best option to have all data synced and organized. It is like the Apple ID for iOS but more diversified. If you don’t already have a Google account, you can create one at here. Once you have created the account. Follow the following steps to sync your contacts to the Google Account.

  1. Go to the “Mail, Contacts, and Calendars” in settings of your iPhone.
  2. Select “Add Account” and select Google account.
  3. Select to sync contacts.

Wait till the sync in completed. However, you will not get a notification when sync is completed. To check on the progress. Go to the Google Contact’s website, log in and you will be able to see the contacts that have been synced.

Method 2: How to Transfer Contacts with iCloud

You can get your contacts from the iCloud too. Just follow the following steps:

  1. Go to your iPhone’s settings and select “Mail, Contacts, and Calendars”.
  2. Select Accounts > iCloud > Contacts and merge them with iCloud.
  3. Open icloud.com on your PC, log in and go to contacts.
  4. Click the gear icon on top. Select all contacts and export the vCard.
  5. Now, go to gmail.com. Click on Mail > Contacts > More > Import > Choose file and select the vCard you exported earlier.
  6. After the importing is completed. Gmail will display the number of contacts that are imported.

Here is a little perk for using this method. You can merge duplicated contacts by clicking “Find and Merge Duplicates” under the “More” tab.

Method 3: How to Transfer Contacts with iTunes

iTunes is around before iCloud, and it also has the capability to sync your contacts. Follow the steps below to do so.

  1. Open iTunes on your PC and connect your iPhone.
  2. On the upper-right hand corner, click on “iPhone”.
  3. Go to “Sync contacts with” under the info tab. Select Google Contacts from the drop down menu.
  4. Enter the account info when prompted to start the syncing.

Method 4: How to Transfer Text Messages with

For SMS transfer, we will take a different approach, as iPhone text messages are not Android friendly. We need to convert them before transfer. We can do this using paid software like Androidphonesoft to do this for you. Just plug in both phones to your PC. And press start. But this is with a price tag of $39.

If you are do not want to spend money on software like those. Then we can do this manually too. And it is easier than you might think. Following steps will get you through:

  1. Open iTunes on your PC and connect your iPhone.
  2. Go to File > Devices > Backup.
  3. Find the backup file.
    1. For Mac users, go to (user)/Library/Application Support/Mobile Sync/Backup.
    2. For Windows users, go to users/(username)/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/Mobile Sync.

You are looking for the file named “3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28”. After locating the file, move it to your Galaxy S8 from PC.

  1. Install iSMS2droid on your phone from Play Store.
  2. Open the app and choose “Select iPhone SMS Database”. Select “All Text Messages”. Your texts are converted and saved as a .xml file.
  3. Download SMS Backup & Restore from Play Store and open it. Select “Restore”, locate the .xml file and select “Restore All Messages”.

That is all you have to do to transfer your contacts and messages from iPhone to Samsung Galaxy S8. It may take you some time to get used to Android OS.
