How to Download and Extract Zip files on Diffrent Operating Systems


In some cases, you may want to extract a file on your computer or download the file to your computer or smartphone. Indeed, not everyone is a computer genius, but the emissions or removal of a file can take different forms, depending on the software you are using and how you use the software. 
A large number of large files and applications can be downloaded from the Internet. To download files from the Internet, you
only need an Internet connection and the downloading applications on your computer. Significantly larger file size takes a long time to transmit. The easiest way to reduce this time in this situation is to zip and compress the files. Most files available online are made available after compression to save on download time. Files or group of files may be large and may be zipped and the compressed before being sent via e-mail or to other places. 

Extraction of files is an evolving process and changes with the version of Microsoft Windows. To illustrate the extraction of files (decompression), consider a file that needs to be extracted from an archive considering Mac, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows operating systems. 

  • For Windows XP, the first step is to find the file. If someone sent an e-mail, open the e-mail address and if the file is attached, download the archived emails safely on to your computer. You can select the location of the file on the desktop. When downloading from the Internet, always choose “Save As” to save the file to your desktop. Find the archived files, right-click the archive, you should receive a pop-up menu, Select extract from the context menu. Click Browse, in the extraction window to save the extracted files to the location for your own choice. You can also choose to create a new folder and save the extracted files in the new folder.
  • For Windows Vista, First, find and double-click the  zip file that was sent to you via email and download attachments. Navigate to the downloads folder and locate the archive, find the archive in the list. Once the archive is found, click “Extract all files”, which is just below the bar. 
  • Windows 7 is the easiest operating system to use when you want to extract a file from an archive. First, find the downloaded archive from the downloads, then right-click it and choose “Extract All” option from the context menu. specify the folder or location where you want the files to be extracted, extract and save. 
  • The Mac OS can also be used to easily extract archived files. First, download the archive that contains the file you need to extract. After the download is complete, navigate to the downloads folder. Double-click the archive. Mac OS extractor will decompress the compressed files instantly and display the folder. You can then transfer the unzipped files to a location of your choice on the computer.  

When download files from the Internet, be careful when you open the file. This is because some files may be malicious or dangerous. Always ensure you download your files from a trusted and reliable source. Remember, Viruses, Trojans and other malicious malware are transmitted in archived files. Update your system with with the latest anti-virus software to detect and remove these potential malware before they harm your computer.
